The Thrills and Chills of Self-Publishing class will address and demystify the self-publishing industry. We will cover various publishing platforms, and discuss genre trends (non-fiction and fiction), traditional vs. self publishing pros and cons, and various sales and marketing strategies; including newsletters, blogs, social media, and in person events.
By the end of the class, attendees will have a greater understanding of the self-publishing industry, and will learn about various platforms to choose for their self-publishing journey. Spooky Aesthetic - Writing Scenes and Settings that Terrify
I am teaching at this year’s Oregon Ghost Conference!
The Spooky Aesthetic: Writing Scenes and Settings that Terrify class will address utilizing spooky settings as well as the five senses, in your writing to create a tangible reaction in readers.
By the end of the class, attendees will have written at least one short piece, during a writing activity. They will get to practice using a setting and the five senses to ramp up tension and pace in their writing.

Join us at the Astoria Public Library as we showcase up and coming pieces of fiction and non-fiction from local Write Astoria Participants.
Write Astoria is a free, open forum founded and facilitated by Kate Deeks hosted by the Astoria Public Library where local writers read from works in progress and offer each other constructive feedback and support.
This showcase will be the first event for Write Astoria where participants will read from their own work publicly, some for the first time. Published authors will have books available for purchase.
This event is free and open to the public.
